Michael "Mike" Hulke, Owner/Funeral Director

Mike Hulke

After graduating from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1986, Mike attended college at UWEC for four years. While attending college in Eau Claire, Mike was a member of the 1987-88 Blugold Football Team.

Before graduating, he entered the United States Army as an Infantryman stationed in Fort Ord, California with the 7th Infantry Division. He received an honorable discharge in May of 1993. Mike returned to college at the University of Minnesota where he graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mortuary Science. He received his license after completing his apprenticeship with Rembs-Kundinger Funeral Home in Marshfield, WI in 1996 and continued employment there until September of 1997. Mike accepted a position in Wisconsin Rapids and later moved to Eau Claire where he has been employed at Fuller Speckien Funeral Home since the summer of 2001.

He married Kari Vollert in 1991. They have three children and are active members of Peace Lutheran Church where he has taught confirmation.

On June 28, 2006, Mike and Kari purchased the Funeral Home, and they have changed the name to Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Karolyn "Kari" Hulke, Owner/Business Administrator/Insurance Licensed

Karolyn Hulke

Kari and her husband, Mike moved to Eau Claire in the summer 2001. They both had attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and were proud to make Eau Claire their home.

Before purchasing and working at Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, she had worked for over 4 years with the Eau Claire Early Learning Program as the Family and Community Partnership Coordinator. She has since completed her Master of Arts degree in Counseling, focusing more on the grief aspect of counseling. Kari feels privileged working with families in various phases of their lives.

Kari and Mike have three wonderful children: Brandon, Garrett, and their daughter, Chandler. Besides watching their kids in their activities and spending time with family and friends, she also enjoys walking, traveling, and being outdoors.

Funeral Service has always been a part of Kari's life. Her father owned and operated a funeral home in Wisconsin Rapids. Her Grandfather started that funeral home in the 1950's.

Trever Zillmer, Funeral Director

Trever Zillmer

Graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1993, he attended University of MN and later transferred to Milwaukee Area Technical College, graduating in 2000 with an Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science.

Trever worked in Milwaukee from 1998 to 2003 at the Altstadt-Tyborski-Ermenc-McLeod Funeral Homes. In 2003, he took a position with the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood, MI until December of 2010. He has been with Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services since January of 2011.

Trever has two children; ages 9 and 6 and a yellow lab named Chester. He is a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

His hobbies are spending time with his family, bow hunting, ice fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

Brandon Hulke, Funeral Director

Brandon Hulke

After graduating from Eau Claire Memorial in 2010, Brandon attended UW-Stout and CVTC while serving his Apprenticeship with Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In September of 2014, Brandon graduated with his Associate of Science Degree in Mortuary Science from Worsham College in Wheeling, Illinois.

Brandon became a licensed Funeral Director and joined his family’s firm in September of 2014. He continued working there full-time until June of 2018. He currently works full-time at Zacho Sports Center in the Marine Sales Department. He remains on staff at the funeral home as a part-time fully licensed funeral director.

Brandon is a member of Chippewa Valley Young Professionals and Peace Church in Eau Claire. He enjoys, golfing, hunting, fishing, going to Viking games, and spending time with family and friends.

Brandon is extremely passionate about helping people, and the Eau Claire community is very important to him. He is honored to be a part of his family’s team, and help families in need in any way possible.

Gus Carlson, Director's Assistant

Gus Carlson

Has lived in Eau Claire for 65 years. He was employed in the Advertising and Sales Department of the Eau Claire Leader Telegram for 38 years. Gus is married to Sally Ann (Davey), and he has two sons Timothy and Jeffrey. He is a member of the Wednesday Noon Lions Club and his hobbies include doing puzzles, reading, and walking. Gus has been a member of the Staff at the Funeral Home for 16 years. Gus enjoys the camaraderie of the staff and the professionalism shown when assisting the families.

James "Jim" Bader, Director's Assistant

James Bader

Jim grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota and moved with his family to Eau Claire in 1986. After nearly forty years in the sales and marketing profession, Jim retired in 2004. Jim is married to Colleen (over 50 years) and they have three sons.

When Jim is not working at the funeral home, he volunteers his time on the Step Force team for Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire. He and Colleen are members of Salem Baptist Church, where Jim serves as an Elder. Jim is also very involved in other community service and gospel ministries.

In 2006, because of his desire to help people, Jim joined the staff at Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Jim is honored to assist families in their time of need.

Garrett Hulke, Funeral Director/Insurance Licensed

After graduating from Eau Claire Memorial in 2013, Garrett attended the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse for 3 semesters. He then transferred to the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mortuary Science in December of 2016.

Garrett became a Licensed Funeral Director in August of 2017, after he completed his apprenticeship at Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services. He is also a Notary Public and a Licensed Life Insurance Agent.

In August 2017, Garrett married his wife, Leah. They currently live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and attend Jacob's Well Church.

He is a member of the National Funeral Director's Association (NFDA) and the Chippewa Valley Young Professionals. Garrett enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with friends and family.

Garrett is committed to honoring and assisting those that make the Chippewa Valley a better place.

Timothy "Tim" Heupel, Director's Assistant/Part-Time Chaplain

Rev. Dr. Timothy J. Heupel

Timothy J. Heupel was born August 7th, 1952 in Aberdeen, S.D. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1970. He continued his education at Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota. He earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974. Heupel then enrolled in Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Illinois. He served his internship at Zion Lutheran Church and Pittsburg State University of Pittsburg, Kansas in 1976 and 1977. Heupel was conferred the Masters of Divinity Degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1978. In 2010 Heupel was conferred the degree of Doctor of Ministry from Sioux Falls, Seminary, Sioux Falls, SD.

Heupel has served congregations in Frankenmuth, Michigan, Sioux Falls, SD, and Omaha, Nebraska. He retired from full-time ministry in August of 2014 and moved with his wife Vicki (Hawn of Rochester, Minnesota) to Eau Claire to be closer to family. They have three children TJ and wife Jill and son Joshua Paul live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Daughter Jennifer Beth and husband Rev. James Whatley and their four children (Ben, Jack, Max, Lizzy) live in Eau Claire. Daughter Katie is married to Mike Stoltenberg. They have three children Cooper, Mason and Emme and live in Waukesha, WI.

Heupel has led seminars on Death and Dying and Grief and Recovery in Michigan, South Dakota, and Nebraska. He has started grief support groups in all of his places of service including here in Eau Claire. He is a member of Peace Church and serves as a Stephen Ministry Leader at Peace.

Heupel enjoys fishing, hunting, golfing and playing with his grandchildren. He has been a Packer backer since he was in fourth grade.

Jimmey Schnabel, Director's Assistant

Jimmey Schnabel

After more than 50 years in the transportation business, nationwide, Jimmey feels honored to join the staff at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home.

Having lost many members in his large family, Jimmey wants to assist others in their time of Loss.

Jimmey and his wife, Krista, reside in Eau Claire. They are both members of Grace Communion International Church in Eau Claire.

Gregory “Greg” Helgeson, Director's Assistant

Greg Helgeson

Greg grew up in the small town of Independence, WI. He graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in Civil Engineering. After a 36-year engineering career, Greg retired in 2018 and joined the staff at Hulke Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Greg and his wife, Carolyn, have been married since 1983. After living in the Madison area they moved to Eau Claire where they raised their son and daughter. Greg and Carolyn are members of Peace Lutheran Church where they have been active in many church ministries.

Greg has also been a Boy Scout leader and coach for youth sports. He enjoys running, biking, hiking, travel, following the Packers and Badgers, and the love of his large extended family.

Greg likes to meet people and is honored to provide support to families who have lost a loved one.

Jessica Hartkemeyer, Funeral Director Apprentice

After graduating from Lakeville High School in Minnesota in 2005, Jessica moved to Eau Claire to attend college and be close to family. She graduated from the Chippewa Valley Technical College with an Associates Degree in Business Management in 2008.

Jessica entered the funeral industry in 2014 in Eau Claire. She became a Licensed Life Insurance Agent to assist families with pre-arranging their funerals. In February of 2019, Jessica made the decision to continue her education in the funeral industry and work toward becoming a Licensed Funeral Director. She is completing her apprenticeship with Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

In June of 2019, Jessica will be getting married to her fiancé, Zachary Livingston. Together with their two daughters, Fiona and Gwen, they built their house in 2016 in the Town of Union near Elk Creek Lake. Jessica enjoys fishing, hunting, boating, rooting for the Packers, and having get togethers with their large family and friends.

Jessica is proud to be serving families in the Chippewa Valley. We welcome her and are excited to put her experiences and contributions to work with our team of professionals.
