Walter "Wally" Lee Duerkop, Jr.

Walter “Wally” Duerkop, age 86 of Eau Claire passed away Saturday February 7, 2026, at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation in Augusta.

Walter Lee Duerkop, Jr.  was born on February 5, 1940, in Black River Falls, WI to Walter and Amy (Knutson) Duerkop.  He grew up on the family farm near Hixton and graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1958. After high school, Wally joined the Air Force.  He married Delores Amundson on May 22, 1965, in Strum. They lived their entire married life in Eau Claire. 

Wally worked for Indianhead Foodservice Distributor until he retired in 2004. He enjoyed going for coffee before work and became friends with many of the customers he made deliveries to.  After the death of Delores in 2005, Wally spent several winters in Mercedes, TX and summers in Chetek.  Wally made friends wherever he went and will be remembered for his generosity to others and for his laugh, which would often precede him entering a room.

He is survived by son Larry (Wendy) Duerkop and granddaughters Allison (Mason Svee) and Lindsay; son Tony (Jennifer) Duerkop; brother-in-law and sister Andy and Jean Workman; sister-in-law Karen Briggs; nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Amy Duerkop; father-in-law and mother-in-law Norman and Sylvia Amundson; wife Delores; and brother-in-law and sister Doug and Donna Kahrau.

The family would like to thank the staff at Augusta Health & Rehabilitation and St. Croix Hospice for the care they provided to Wally.

A funeral service for Wally will take place at 11 am on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Hulke Family Funeral Home.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on that day from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington immediately following the service.    

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Wally's name to The American Cancer Society.
