Shawn Lanier Obituary

Shawn Michel Lanier, 43, Eau Claire, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on October 24, 2024.

Shawn was born August 08, 1981 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of Mike and Lori Lanier.

Shawn graduated from Memorial High School in 2000, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Shawn met Cole Halvorson in 2012 online, and they quickly formulated a friendship that turned into a loving partnership. They were truly each other’s other half; Shawn would consistently lose things and Cole would always be right there to find them. Cole’s recent passing was a source of unbearable sorrow for Shawn, and the entire Lanier family.

Shawn helped manage the family business at Domino’s Pizza 25 for years. During that time, he made several significant relationships with his team & customers.  Many of whom would come in just to see him.

Shawn was a smart and precocious child. He had a need to figure out what made things work, often taking things apart. This started when he took the toaster apart when he was 10 months old. Shawn loved power tools, electronics and gadgets. This became apparent when he took his father’s drill at 2 years old, and got it turned on. We had to buy him a cordless screwdriver and give him screws to drill into a board to keep him occupied when he was “helping” his father. He made us crazy with these types of antics until his grandfather brought him a box of broken small appliances to take apart. This project occupied him for several months, often well after his bedtime. His lighthearted nature continued as he grew up, setting up pranks specifically designed to terrorize his sisters.

Shawn loved to spend his free time hiking, camping, boating, water skiing.  He recently had found his love for kayaking, and fishing after Cole bought him a fishing pole for his last birthday. His most recent adventure involved bringing home a large catfish he had caught and couldn’t get the hook out. He decided to bring it home to surprise his mom by leaving it in the bathtub for the day.  He had a special love for animals and them for him. He also enjoyed working closely with Pastor Mike Henry in helping the homeless community. He especially loved spending time with his family, his life partner Cole, friends, and his dog, Remi.

Remaining to cherish Shawn’s memory are his parents: Mike and Lori Lanier, two sisters: Amber Renner, her husband Matt Renner, and Heather Lanier, Nieces: Madison Kimbro, Autumn Renner, Abrianna Lanier, Zoey Kimbro, and Lillian Renner, and Nephew: Parker Kimbro and close friend / “adopted” family Susan Woodford.

Preceding Shawn in death include his life partner Cole Michael Halverson, Grandparents: Harold Francis Lanier, Betty Elaine Kame, Harold Royce Waha, Lois Christine Veenman-Ragan, Aunt Jackie Weaver and Uncles Melvin Campbell, John Phillips and extended family.

A private celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
