Richard Steitz Obituary

Richard R. Steitz, 83, of the Town of Washington, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 9, 2025 under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Richard was born October 21, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI to Arthur and Cahterine (Watters) Steitz. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School, then studied undergrad at Lawrence University and earned his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Wayne State University.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth (Kevin) Gift of Washington Crossing, PA, Kathryn (William) Steitz-Fine of Eau Claire; sisters, Sally Honeck and Mary Steitz; brother, William Steitz; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Steitz, and grandson, Tyler Nelson.

He worked as an electrical engineer for Cray Research and then went on to work for Xcel Energy until retirement. For many years, Richard found joy in both flower and vegetable gardens. He was a devoted usher at the State Theater for 20 years, greeting each patron with a warm smile, forging lasting connections and becoming a beloved presence at the theater. Richard also had a deep love for antiquing, always seeking out treasures and getting that bargain!

He was of the Methodist faith and attended Chapel Heights Methodist Church in Eau Claire.
