Richard David McLellan, 84, of Eau Claire, WI passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Dove Healthcare West under the care of St. Croix hospice.
He was born on September 5, 1941 in Cameron, WI to Clarence and Alice (Anderson) McLellan. He graduated from Cameron High School, and went on to serve his country with the United States Marines.
Richard married Mary Hicks, together they welcomed one child into the world, Jodi.
Over the years, Richard was a machinist at various factories around Wisconsin. He loved music; from his high school days of playing the tuba to playing the guitar and singing into adulthood, he had a knack for music. He was also an athletic man, having participated in many sports over the course of his life. Another of his hobbies was “thrifting” – he enjoyed a good thrift store and the subsequent show-and-tell of any treasures he found. Perhaps above all, Richard loved being outside in the natural world; fishing was a favorite. Animals were drawn to him just as much—he owned several beloved dogs over the years, and a single cat near the end when dogs became too much to care for. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Jodi Malmgren of Eau Claire, WI; and his sister, Carol Juza of Shell Lake, WI; along with other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary McLellan in 2020; his parents, Clarence and Alice McLellan; and his sister, Ann Kracht.
According to Richard’s wishes, cremation will take place and he will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in Cameron, WI in a private family ceremony.
