Richard D. Carroll

Richard Dennis Carroll (Dick) was born on January 29, 1949, in Winona, MN, the third child of John Leonard (Jack) and Mary (Helene) Carroll.

Richard attended Regis High School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he met Lana Jensen. They married in August of 1970 and soon after he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in electrical engineering. For Richard’s first job, they moved to Chicago where they also began their family with the birth of their sons, Richard Ryan and Brenden John. They returned to the Eau Claire area and grew the family by one more with the birth of their daughter, Meghan Kathleen.

Richard and Norm Plourde purchased Automation Displays, Inc., in 1985 and successfully ran this company for the next 33 years. Richard was active in his church, serving as an Elder and raising his children in the faith.

Not only did Richard love Jesus and his family, he was in all aspects of the term, a train enthusiast. Family vacations were planned around train tracks, hump yards, and train shows. He was well known for his impressive train display at his home and his closest friends were members of the West Wisconsin Railroad Club. Richard will also be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his generous heart, and his love of all things Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.

Richard was received into his heavenly home on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John (Terry) Carroll, brother-in-law Kimon Bird, sister-in-law Leona Carroll, and niece Farren Carroll. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lana; children Ryan (Karn) Carroll, Brenden (Elena) Carroll, and Meghan (Missy) Collins; three grandsons, Seth and Sean Carroll and Koa Collins; sisters Mary (Drew) Ryberg and Susan Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens and St. Croix Hospice who showed him incredible love and compassion.

A celebration of Richard’s life and faith will be held at Hulke Funeral Home on Saturday, April 27th. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and the service is at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
