Randall Scott Condit, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Azura Memory Care in Eau Claire.
Randy was born in Des Moines, IA, and raised in Eau Claire, WI, earned a BS in Chemistry from UW-Eau Claire and an MD from the UW-Madison. He married Karen Sentz in 1977, and together they had two children, Lindsey (1980) and Adam (1983). Randy completed a pediatric internship at Stanford University, then pursued ophthalmology research in Madison while working as an ER physician. After a residency in Colorado and a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology in Iowa, he opened a private practice in Colorado before joining Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse, WI in 1992.
Never one to shy away from new challenges, Randy embraced a second career in literature after an early retirement from medicine. With a deep love for reading and writing, he pursued an English degree at UW-La Crosse where he read and wrote extensively. Despite never publishing his novel, his literary pursuits were a deeply fulfilling endeavor. He also volunteered with the Red Cross post-Hurricane Katrina and provided medical care in Kenya.
Eventually, he returned to medicine, working in Iowa before rejoining Gundersen Clinic to serve geriatric patients. After retiring again, he and Karen settled in Eau Claire in 2018. A lover of knowledge and the outdoors, Randy enjoyed music, photography, hiking, biking, and running. He cherished the mountains, family trips to Bear Trap Ranch, CO, motorcycle adventures, and studying and teaching God’s Word in various settings. His greatest joys were his children: Lindsey (Matthew) Stephan, Adam (Alicia) Condit and his role as” Papa” to his six grandchildren: Madeline, Amelia, Shane, Coraline, Leo, and Alice. He treasured each laugh, each hug, each moment.
Though his later years were marked by illness, he was surrounded by unwavering love and support from family, friends, and caregivers from Azura Memory Care and Heartland Hospice. His physicians from Mayo Health System were exceptional and always there for him.
His legacy of faith, compassion, curiosity, and resilience continues to inspire those who knew him.
In honor of his memory, contributions can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or the Christian Medical and Dental Society.
