Nancy Ellen Mayer, age 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Aspirus Hospital in Stanley, WI. The last few years, she resided at the Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center in Owen, WI.
Nancy was born on June 15, 1949, to Kenneth and Margaret Mayer in Eau Claire at the old Sacred Heart Hospital. She resided in Eau Claire graduating from Memorial High School. Later, she lived in Tomah and Sparta, WI. Approximately 17 years ago, she came back to Eau Claire. Nancy was involved with the Career Development Center and Special Olympics. Her sister Carol helped Nancy with her healthcare and living areas. We thank Carol for all her years of dedication to Nancy’s care.
Nancy was a kind and compassionate person who helped many folks along the way. She was a true tomboy with her baseball caps, T-shirts, and blue jeans. She loved to be outdoors and had friends of all ages. Nancy loved to fish and she caught so many over the years. Last summer, Nancy was able to go fishing again. She was so excited when she caught the most fish in the group. When she was 39 years old, she caught a snapping turtle while out fishing. She made turtle stew and would say “He was a tough bugger”. Nancy believed in God and was devoted in her faith.
She is survived by her siblings, Mary Dicke of Hudson, Dan (Donna) Mayer of Blair, Carol (Mike) Pickerign of Eau Galle, and Deb Machmeier of Eau Claire, her Aunt Edna, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, George and Ina Mayer, Frank and Cora Fox; her brother, Rick Mayer; and her brothers-in-law, John Dicke and Philip Machmeier.
Nancy had a special bond with her Grandma Mayer. She was the “apple” of Grandma’s eye.
The family would like to thank the staff at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center and Aspirus Stanley Hospital for the care they provided to Nancy.
A memorial service will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Hulke Family Funeral Home with Pastor David Irgens officiating.
