Melissa Ann Ullom, 51, of Menomonie passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at her home in Menomonie WI under the care of her loving husband and Heartland Hospice.
She was born on Wednesday, November 27, 1974 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Henry and Linda (Hemersbach) Budzinski.
In Melissa’s early years from childhood to teen, she attended New Hope Christian school and graduated from there in 1993. In those formative years of her life, she also was involved in a program called Bible quizzing where she learned and memorized thousands of verses of scripture in her nine years of participation. This put in her a great and passionate love for the word of God.
As a young adult, God gave her a burden to go and serve in ministry in eastern Europe. She was there for nine months on the missions field in the country of Belarus serving in any way she could, primarily as a school teacher in the city of Lida. A life altering experience that built relationships and friendships that continued through the years all the way until her passing.
After spending a year at Bible college, she settled back in Eau Claire and became a CNA at Luther Hospital. It was not long after this that she met and fell in love with a farmer. Melissa and Lee were married on February 20th 1999. They would go on to have two sons as she embarked on what she described as her life’s calling, to be a mother.
She became a homeschool Mom, being the teacher, cook, counsellor, and learned how to toss a football in the backyard. By creating this environment, her sons were blessed with a Mother who not only gave them her love and affection, but it was through her leading and discipling that they both came to Christ.
Her impact went beyond the home, being involved in various ministries in her church which included being a Bible quizzing coach, organizing baby showers for new mothers in the church, as well as always being willing to pray with anyone who was in need of a touch from God.
Melissa’s life was defined by her love and devotion to Jesus Christ, from when she was baptized in His name and filled with His Spirit as a child. She lived a life of a true Christian that was always striving to become more like Christ. She very much lived out Paul’s words in Philippians 3:10-14 “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
One of Melissa’s greatest gifts was her God-given ability to encourage others around her, whether it was young ladies who had recently come to Christ, or those who were facing terminal illnesses, or her friends and family, she always strove to follow the leading of the Lord to be an encourager to lift others up when they were facing difficulties and obstacles in their lives.
She will be greatly missed, but we are confident and persuaded that we will see her again in that heavenly city when God will dwell with His people forever.
Melissa is survived by her beloved husband of 26 years, Lee Ullom; her children, Ellis (Amelia) Ullom of Eau Claire and Shepard Ullom at home; her parents, Henry and Linda Budzinski of Eau Claire; her siblings, Damian (Jen) Budzinski of Eau Claire, and Christian (Kristin) Budzinski of Stevens Point; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who were close to her.
