Mary R. Berman, 94, of Elk Creek Lake, WI went to be with her Lord on November 13, 2025. Mary was born Mary Rose Engelbrecht on August 13, 1931, in Meteor, WI. She grew up in Meteor, went to Meteor grade school and Birchwood High School.
She married Donald (Don) Berman on August 30, 1952. Together, they had four children. Don was in the USAF and Mary followed him on his assignments with the kids to places like Florida, Georgia, Okinawa, and Charleston, SC. When Don retired in 1968, she moved back to their home state of Wisconsin and settled in the town of Elk Creek Lake. She participated in the building of their home at Elk Lake by mixing cement, helping to hang sheet rock, painting, and whatever needed to be done. During the summer and fall, she canned fruits and vegetables from the garden and made jellies, jams, pickles, pickled watermelon rinds, and pickled crab apples. She loved sewing, crocheting, and quilting in her spare time. When she wasn’t busy, she would travel with her husband out west to visit family and friends from the military, to Florida to visit her children and to Alaska. She was active in the women’s circle at St Joseph’s in Elk Mound.
Mary is survived by her son Wayne (Mari); daughters Dawn, Lydia and son, Anthony (Rita). She has 8 grandchildren,15great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Don, father, Henry Engelbrecht, mother, Lydia Engelbrecht, brothers Adolph, Robert, Ervin, Rudy and Clarence, sisters Margaret, Frieda and Leona.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am on Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church - Rock Falls, E9265 State Hwy. 85, Mondovi, WI 54755 with Father Tim Welles officiating. Sandwiches and refreshments will be served in the hall after mass. Visitation will take place at the church on that day from 9:30 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at 11 am on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner, WI.
