Mary Baker Obituary

Mary Alice Baker (Porter), 85, of Eau Claire, passed away on Saturday, September 28th, at Marshfield Hospital. She was born in Radisson, Wisconsin, on July 26th, 1939, to Alma (Ransom) and Roy Porter. On April 8th, 1958, Mary married John Baker.

Mary will always hold a place in everyone’s heart as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always thinking of ways to bring joy to the kids in her life by gifting toys, trinkets, sweets, and treasures, which always resulted in smiles. She enjoyed traveling to see relatives, family friends, and attended many special events like the “20 Years Happy Birthday USA” Fourth of July celebration featuring the Statler Brothers in Staunton, Virginia.

Mary was always quick to give a helping hand, donating her time and resources to charitable causes. She dedicated herself tirelessly as a Room Mother for all her kids, so much so that the teachers kindly suggested she take a well-deserved break. Later in life, Mary was a driver for the Meals on Wheels program in Eau Claire County, where she included her grandkids to teach the importance of giving back to the community. In addition to her charitable work, she served as the bookkeeper for the family business at BJ Auto Salvage.

Mary is survived by her children: Renee Goeppinger (son-in-law Larry Goeppinger) and Mike Baker (daughter-in-law Donna Baker); eight grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Baker; her son, Jeff Baker; her parents; and her siblings: Jane Thompson, Dorthy Anderson, Daniel Emery Porter, Phillip Porter, and Donna Rognholt.

A memorial service will take place at 6:00 PM, Friday, October 4, 2024 at Hulke Family Funeral Home. Jody Hagedorn will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until the time of service at 6:00. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to their favorite charity in Mary Baker’s name.
