Marlaine Susan White was born to Martin and Marie White on September 17, 1936, in Madison, WI. Marlaine was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Matthew. She is survived by her older brother Martin of Laxahatchee, FL, his daughters Marie, and Mardell.
Marlaine was a teacher, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, she taught 4th grade in Milwaukee and EauClaire, (Locust Lane) public schools until she retired. After retirement, Marlaine worked as a Home Health Aide for Northwest Wisconsin Home Care. She was also a Literacy Volunteer for many years.
Marlaine also had a passion for singing and was a member of many local choirs including, Valley Gospel Choir, Chippewa Valley Symphonic Choir, and the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral.
Late in her life Marlaine struggled with the dementia which eventually took her life. As her thoughts became more scattered and often delusional, she began to hoard. Eventually, the city officials instructed her that she was not safe in her home after dark, because of the risk of fire. This led to several years of sleeping in the homeless shelter a few blocks from her house. Eventually she received individual private housing until she needed residential care.
Marlaine’s family and guardian would like to express their deep gratitude for the care provided by Care Partners Memory Care on Birch St., St. Croix Hospice, and the congregation at Christ Church Cathedral.
Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday, July, 29, 2025 at 11:00 am. No flowers please because Marlaine’s family lives in Florida.
