Marjorie Satre Obituary

Marjorie (Marj) A. Satre passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at The Classic in Altoona surrounded by family, and under the wonderful care of her hospice team and memory care staff.  Marj was born on June 23, 1937, to Melvin and Ellen (Hennessey) Johnson in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. On the day Marj graduated from Eau Claire Senior High she started working as a secretary at the General Motors Acceptance Corporation in Eau Claire.

Marj met the love of her life, David (Dave) Satre, at a Church gathering. They married on June 8, 1957.  They had three children, and Marj left the workforce to care for her family.  They joined Trinity Lutheran Church in 1960 where Marj became an active volunteer and made sure that the family attended services every Sunday.  After her children became independent, she went to work as a secretary for New York Life Insurance Company where she worked for 18 years.  However, family remained her priority and she made the most of opportunities to be with her children and grandchildren whenever possible.

Marj was an enthusiastic traveler who planned annual family road trips with the family camper, eventually seeing all 50 states. Wisconsin camping trips were normally group affairs with family friends who called themselves “Birds in the Wilderness”.  In retirement, Marj and Dave traveled the world, visiting more than 30 countries.  They camped in the summer on a lake by Birchwood and in the winter on South Padre Island, usually accompanied by their travel buddies, Bob and Bea Frazee.  A travel story Marj enjoyed telling was that, when they toured the Great Wall of China, she found herself surrounded by a group of Chinese fifth graders who wanted to take her picture because they had never seen someone with blonde hair.

When Dave died unexpectedly from medical complications, Marj made a new life for herself through activities with friends and became a regular at the Eau Claire Senior Center with her friend Sally Snyder, where she socialized, exercised, and learned how to play Mahjong with new friends.  She especially enjoyed her friends from Trinity and lovingly referred to their group as “the church chicks”.

Marj exuded positive energy and would often exclaim “Yay, yay, yay!”- more recently adding “Hallelujah!”  She also cheerfully admitted to being a “Pepsiholic” and always had a good supply on hand.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers from both The Classic, and St. Croix Hospice who attended Marj with patience and love.
Marj was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; parents, Melvin and Ellen Johnson; sisters, Judith Risen, and Lynn Tietz; sister-in-law Margaret Satre; and brothers-in-law Karl Satre, and Roger Tietz.

Marj is survived by her children, John (Tami), Eric (Philomena), and Ann Marie; her grandchildren, Andrew, Laura (Tobey) Betthauser, David (Jessica), Brigid, and Thomas; great grandchildren, Oliver Bock, Mary Grace, William, Amelia Betthauser, Vanessa Betthauser, and September; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, with Pastor Patrick Patterson officiating.  Visitation will be held 90 minutes prior to the time of service at the church.  Burial will be held at Lutheran Church Cemetery in Eau Claire.
