Marjorie Nagel Obituary

January 10, 2025 the Lord Jesus came to take the hand of Marjorie Nagel and gently lead her to her forever home---a mansion made especially for her.

Marge will be sadly missed by her daughter, Julie Drace (John); two beloved grandchildren, Paul Drace, Anna Toxen (Austin); and great grandson, Luke Toxen. Many nieces, nephews and very special friends will share in this loss.

Marjorie was born in Gilman Valley, Mondovi, Wisconsin on December 25, 1922 to Arthur and Clara Brotzman.  Her parents preceded her in death as well as siblings LaVern, Ivan (Edith), Dorthy Goss (Wilson), Everett (Dolly and later Marie) and baby Wilma.

Marjorie attended rural school in Gilman Valley and graduated with honors from Gilmanton High School in 1940.  She attended the Eau Claire Teacher’s College and graduated with honors in 1943. She taught in Appleton, Wi because of teacher shortages during World War II.  She completed her education degree in 1948 at the UW EauClaire and continued graduate studies at UW Eau Claire and UW Madison.

Marjorie taught in Appleton from 1943-1946, Eau Claire from 1946-1950 and 1965-1985; Chippewa Falls from 1950-1959 and as an instructor in the University Laboratory School for one year.  She retired in 1985 after 36 years of teaching.  Marjorie was an active member of local, state and national education associations.

Marjorie met the love of her life, Paul Nagel during her time at UW Eau Claire.  They were married June 8, 1950 and shared 62 wonderful years together.  The family was blessed with one beloved daughter, Julie (Drace).  Marge loved sewing, cooking and baking which her grandchildren definitely enjoyed.  The family went together on several ocean cruises, of course always including the grandchildren.

Marjorie and Paul traveled extensively after their retirement.  Trips took them to China, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Russia, Israel, and the Panama Canal.  Marjorie and Paul’s focus in life was serving Christ and living with eternity in mind.  She was dedicated to her service in the Eau Claire Wesleyan Church teaching Sunday School, making crafts for Vacation Bible School with Paul, and serving on the missions committee.  She also taught English to the Hmong people.  She was a dedicated member of the Auxiliary of the Gideons where she served for many years.  The Jail ministry was blessed as she corrected Bible Study Coursework for the jail chaplain.

Marjorie will be remembered as one who gave herself in service to others, as one who loved flowers and whose kitchen was always open to hospitality. She was a person who will be remembered for her giving spirit and care to those who knew her. During her later years she continued to be a great prayer warrior.

These last years she was blessed by the wonderful caregivers of Home Instead, 2 young ladies-Abby and Emmah Gran, and dear friend Paula Minette.  St. Croix Hospice provided such loving care. Special thank you to Nurse Lauren Kriewaldt.  Marge enjoyed building relationships with her caregivers and they definitely became her friends.
