Margaret "Peggy" Iverson Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” (Rock) Iverson of Eau Claire, 96, formerly of Hudson,  passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025 while under hospice care at her home.  She was born in 1928 in Hudson to Edward Peter “E.P.” and Margaret (Williams) Rock and was welcomed home by her 4-year-old brother, Edward Sheldon “Peter” Rock.

Peggy graduated from Hudson High School in 1945 and attended the Wisconsin State Teachers College (now UW-River Falls) in River Falls.  It was there she met her future husband, Donald Iverson, a World War II veteran from St. Croix Falls.   Peggy graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1949, and she and Don were married that same year.  They moved to Chicago where Peggy taught elementary school while Don completed optometry school.  They later returned to Hudson where Don started his optometry practice and Peggy returned to teaching.  They built a home at the corner of 9th and Summer Streets and were blessed with three children: Peter, Nancy and Carolyn.  They were active members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and many civic organizations in Hudson.

In 1975, Don accepted work in the Madison area, and he, Peggy and Carolyn moved to Monona.  Later, Peggy and Don each worked for the Wisconsin State Legislature until they retired in 1989.  They moved to Eau Claire in 1995 to be near Carolyn and her family.  Peggy enjoyed playing bridge, walking, golfing, reading and hosting gatherings for family and friends.

Peggy was blessed to teach at E.P. Rock Elementary School in Hudson, named in honor of her father who had been Superintendent of the Hudson Area School District.  Peggy’s three children also attended Rock School.  Like their mother and grandfather, Peggy’s daughters, Nancy and Carolyn, each became educators.

She was a strong supporter of progressive government and civil rights.  During the spring 1960 Presidential primary campaign in Wisconsin, she was honored to host friends at a tea party in her Hudson home with special guest Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the sister of presidential candidate Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don (1999), daughter Nancy Iverson Wanner (1988) and son Peter (2008).  In 1945 she lost her brother “Peter”,  a fighter pilot, during World War II.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Greg) Helgeson of Eau Claire;  grandchildren David (Alice) Iverson of Illinois;  Kelly (Brooks) Iverson Ballard of Texas;  Steven (Brittney) Helgeson of Minnesota; and Katie (Chris) Helgeson Wolf of North Carolina.  She is also survived by her great-granddaughters Fiona Iverson and Maeve Ballard, and her great-grandsons Finley Ballard, Hayes Helgeson and Beckett Helgeson.

A private family inurnment will be held at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson.   Peggy will rest next to her husband Don, daughter Nancy, son Peter and her parents Edward and Margaret.

Memorials are suggested to Mayo Clinic Hospice, 1221 Whipple Street, Eau Claire, WI 54703 or Visiting Angels, 2411 North Hillcrest Parkway #1F,  Altoona, WI 54720.   Friends and family may offer condolences online at www.hulkefamilyfh.com.
