Kathleen "Kathy" Sahlhoff Obituary

Kathleen Ann (Scanlan) Sahlhoff age 69 most recently of Elk Mound, Wisconsin passed away on May 29, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born November 9,1954 to Al and Rita Scanlan in Oak Park, Illinois. Kathy grew up with her younger sisters Deb and Beth. The three girls filled Al and Rita's home with love, laughter, and never ending stories.

Kathy graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in Riverside, Illinois before attending Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. There she met Carl Sahlhoff and they married shortly after on April 27, 1974. Kathy graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Kathy and Carl then moved to Bellingham, Washington. Kathy graduated with a Master's degree from Western Washington University in Student Personnel Administration. Kathy worked as the Director of Financial Aid at Western Washington University until 1996 when she accepted the position of Financial Aid Director at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Kathy remained at UWEC until retiring.

Of all of Kathy's many accomplishments, her most coveted title was Nana. Kathy loved her three grandchildren deeply and spent their time together making memories that will continue to reinforce Nana's love for them.

Kathy was a faithful servant of God. She gave much of her time and heart to Peace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where she served as a Deacon up until the time of her passing. Kathy also had multiple side passions including supporting individuals leaving the foster care system and helping community members handle unexpected life adversity.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 50 years Carl Sahlhoff of Elk Mound. She is further survived by her children Kira (Wes) Gilbertson of Colfax and Joseph Sahlhoff of Elk Mound, grandchildren Corbin, Cadence, and Coralyn of Colfax, her parents Al and Rita Scanlan of Brookfield, Illinois, sister Deb (Don) Walter of Riverside, Illinois, sister Beth (Al VanNote) Scanlan of Chicago, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

We were in no way prepared to lose Kathy. Her passing has left a void in our lives that is only lessened by the infinite amount of love Kathy spread during her time on Earth. One of the lasting signs of Kathy's love is her beautiful garden. In honor of Kathy's love for her garden, those attending her service are encouraged to incorporate floral prints into their attire.

A memorial service for Kathy will take place at 12 pm (noon) Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, 501 E. Fillmore Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701 with Pastor Mark Schulz officiating.
