Judith Walters Obituary

Judith “Judy” R. Walters (York), 84 of Eau Claire (Town of Brunswick), passed away Sunday, September 1st at Mayo - Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI, with her children by her side. Judy was born on October 13,1939 in Eau Claire, WI. She attended the old Eau Claire high school located in downtown Eau Claire, graduating in 1957. On December 11 of 1964 she married Harold Walters and from this union they had four children.

As the children grew, Judy was very active in their school activities, volunteering daily at Litle Red school and serving as the President of the PTA for many years. She was also very active as a volunteer and leader of the Little Red Cardinals 4-H Club. When her children were out of elementary school, she attended Chippewa Valley Technical College and received her associate’s degree in accounting. Education was very important to her. She excelled in mathematics and enjoyed helping tutor other students through college. Later at the age of 54, while working full-time, she went back to school and received her bachelor’s degree in accounting. Judy enjoyed working for several years at Culligan Water Co, in Eau Claire. The holidays were especially filled with many great memories as Judy loved to cook and bake for her children, grandchildren and other family members. She especially enjoyed making many ethnic Norwegian and German foods such as lefse, Spätzle, Rommegrot, Potato Klubb and others.

As the Grand Children arrived, year after year she would spend a great deal of time with all nine of them, going to their numerous sports activities, band concerts, school fairs, dance recitals, etc. If a grandchild had an event, she would be there. She would seldom miss anything! When her grandchildren called her up for advice, which was often, she always knew just what to say, even when it was hard to say it. She was known to be extremely generous during the holiday seasons with the great gifts she would give. Each Christmas, she was known for setting up an entire mini-Christmas village in the house for the grandkids. She also enjoyed crafting doll houses, and collecting porcelain dolls, which her Granddaughters loved. In later years she would spend much of her time at the American Legion Post 53 in Eau Claire, serving in many positions, including President of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering for countless events like chicken dinner nights, poppy drives, bingo games, holiday events, Memorial Day parades and making gift packs and quilts for members of the military. She especially enjoyed spending time volunteering for the local veterans, with her latest role of helping with homeless veteran women. She had a servant’s heart, and always went the extra mile for anyone in need. She was never afraid to speak her mind, as she always stuck up for what was right and for those who needed a voice. She truly was the matriarch of the Walters family and without her, it’ll not be the same.

Judy is survived by her three children: Karl (Suzie) Walters, twin daughters Melissa Haller, and Melinda (David) Nyseth. Grandchildren: Nathan (Katie) Walters, Seth (Alom) Walters, Katie (Caleb) Horner, Kaleb (Ali) Walters, Jake (Nancy) Holmberg, Abby Nyseth (Luke Kasten), Thane Nyseth, Garrett Haller and Maddy Haller. Great grandchildren: Soren Walters, Arlo Walters, Julian Holmberg and soon to be baby Horner. She is further survived by her brother, Tom (Jane) York, sister, Kay York, and sister, Debbie Sherwood, sister-in-law, Darlene Close, sister-in-law, Janice (Jack) Nelson, sister-in-law, Connie Gomm, and brother-in-law, Jeff Walters, along with several nieces and nephews.
