John T. Sosinski, age 100, died at Mayo Clinic Health System’s Hospital in Eau Claire on May 30, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister. He’s survived by his daughter, son-in-law, grandsons, and relatives in Poland.
He was born in Piotrkow-Trybunalski, Poland in 1923. During World War II, John was recruited into the Polish Armed Forces. After the war, he continued his education in England where he received a degree in mechanical engineering. He immigrated to the USA in January of 1951 and then worked for Universal Oil Products, often on assignment all over North America. He settled in West St. Paul, MN, and in 1973, he married Arlene Anderson. They were blessed with a daughter two years later.
John loved many things, including skiing, classical music, crosswords, traveling to the Caribbean, dark chocolate, nature, citrus, thin crust pizza, fish dinners and Old Fashioned’s. He appreciated the beauty of an ordinary day, but loved a good ol' summertime day.
He built so much, shared, had character and had significance. He was intelligent and lived a life marked by giving. John was grateful for family, especially his grandsons, who called him Bapa S. He always put someone else's needs before his.
He was most proud of his cabin and lake property that became a "work farm", but also the focal point of summer vacations and some holidays. It was a place he loved and cared for, for decades of his life. It eventually evolved into his home where he spent half the year doing yard work, fishing with a neighbor, and finally sitting alongside lapping waves.
At John's request, no service will be held, but a private inurnment will be near Sand Lake in Britt, MN. Please consider a memorial contribution in his name to the Sand Lake Association, P.O. Box 1013, Virginia, MN, 55792, which is a non-profit lake association dedicated to promoting cabin life, recreational enjoyment and the integrity of Sand Lake.
