John Thomas Atter

January 18th, 1940 - August 1, 2025

John Thomas Atter 85 of Eau Claire, WI passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2025 at Heritage Court in Eau Claire, Wi. He was proceeded in death by his parents John Arthur and Mary Bernice Atter (Devney). 

John graduated from Eau Claire Regis High school in 1957 and received his BA at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. After college he went to the diocesan seminary for 1 year in La Crosse, WI. He joined the Air Force ROTC for 5 years. John worked in management at K-Mart from 1963 to 1968. He subsequently joined State Farm Insurance as a claims representative in the auto division until his retirement in 2002. During his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, reading, and most of all spending time with his family. John had a very strong Catholic faith, often attending daily Mass as a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Marlys (Johnson), two children; Steve, daughter-in-law Helen , son Tom, daughter-in-law Christy; grandchildren Ashley Klitzka, her fiance James, Joe Haslitt and his wife Elizabeth, Tara Haslitt and her fiance Nick, Marlene Atter, Thomas Atter and Jaxson Atter, and 4 great grandchildren; Harley Davidson, Chance Davidson, Michael Coakley, Sophia Harrison.

John will be forever loved and missed by all. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Croix Hospice and Heritage Court Memory Care of Eau Claire.

A memorial mass for John will take place at 11 am on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701 with Father Francis Thadathil officiating.  Memorial visitation will take place at the church on that day from 10 am until the time of service.  Inurnment will take place at the Chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire later that afternoon at 1:45 pm.
