Joan M. Rohr Myers

Joan M. Rohr Myers died late Sunday evening, November 5, 2023 at the Meadowbrook at Bloomer in Bloomer, Wisconsin.  Joan was born on December 28, 1942 to Lt. Russell Rohr and Jane Brennen Rohr in Cleveland, Ohio.  Following World War II, the family moved to Marysville, Ohio and lived in a big house that belonged to Joan’s grandfather, Henry Jay Rohr.  That was a very happy time when many cousins came and played under the big apple tree in the backyard.

After graduating from high school, Joan attended Ohio State and then two outstanding Jesuit schools, St. Louis University and Marquette University.  At Marquette she met her future husband, Gerald Lynn Myers. They raised their children, David, and Rachel in West Central Wisconsin.  Gerald and Joan later divorced.

Joan worked at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for over 25 years. She taught communication arts and served as the Affirmative Action Officer and History Department Chair along with many other committee assignments and responsibilities.

One of the great joys of her life was the time spent with her many dogs. Her greatest pride was having poems published in Commonweal Magazine and then receiving the Catholic Press Association Award for Best Poetry published in the Catholic press that year.  She also had three plays produced by Wisconsin Public Radio.

Joan was a devout member of the Catholic Church and had belonged to Newman Parish in Eau Claire since 1985.

Joan is survived by her daughter Rachel Myers, son David Myers (Sanja Dojčinović), brother Larry Rohr (Patti) and niece, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10 am at the Newman Catholic Parish, 110 Garfield Ave, Eau Claire, WI 54701. There will be no visitation time prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Marysville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be given in Joan’s Name to the St. Francis Food Pantry, 1221 Truax Blvd, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
