Jerome Dean Kooiker

Jerome D. 'Jerry' Kooiker entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 8, 2026, after a life marked by faith, family, and faithful service.

Jerry was born on December 25, 1939, in Souix County, Iowa, a state he remained proud to call home in his heart throughout his life. Deeply appreciative of his Dutch heritage, he was known to say, "If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much." His roots helped shape a life marked by faith, hard work, humility, and devotion to family.

Above all, Jerry was a man of strong Christian faith. One of the guiding influences in his life was the charge given to him by his father before his passing: "Raise up your kids to know the Lord." Jerry embraced that calling and sought to faithfully live it out throughout his life. He was a devoted follower of Christ, a faithful husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a servant to both his family and church.

On August 20th, 1966, Jerry married the love of his life, Louise Ann Kooiker. Together they shared 57 years of marriage, building a home centered on faith, family, service, and love. Their lives were deeply intertwined, and following Louise's passing in 2023, her absence was felt every day.

Professionally, Jerry spent more than 30 years as an accountant with Cremette/Borden Company. He loved numbers, details, and spreadsheets long before computers made them commonplace. Friends and family often joked that if something needed organizing, tracking, or balancing, Jerry was the right person for the job.

Jerry honorably served his country in the Army National Guard of Minnesota and was honorably discharged in April 1968 as a Reserve of the Army.

Though he never played many organized sports himself, Jerry became a lazy boy fan. He enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and football and could often be found following a game or discussing the latest scores.

Jerry also loved fishing. Over the years, he organized countless fishing trips with family and friends, including memorable fly-in adventures into Canada. The fellowship, planning, and shared experiences were every bit as important to him as the fish that were caught.

Following retirement, Jerry and Louise enjoyed traveling with a close-knit group of friends. Together they planned and participated in numerous trips, creating cherished memories and lifelong friendships.

Seeking to be closer to their children and grandchildren, Jerry and Louise relocated to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Their move ultimately helped draw their daughter, Tina ( & Bob Huestis) and her family to the area as well, allowing generations of the family to enjoy life together.

In his later years, Jerry's practical nature gave way to an even softer heart. He possessed a servant's spirit and always wanted to be useful—to his family, his church, and his community. He faithfully served as a trustee at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Eau Claire and also shared his gifts as president of his townhome association. He enjoyed a good game of dominoes with family and friends and dart-ball weekly. Whether working with budgets, solving problems, or quietly helping behind the scenes, Jerry found joy in serving others.

Those who knew Jerry will remember his steady faith, quiet dependability, attention to detail, and deep love for his family. More than any accomplishment, he will be remembered as a faithful man of God who loved his wife, faithfully raised his children, and sought to leave a legacy of faith for future generations.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise Ann Kooiker, his parents, and other dear loved ones who welcomed him home to heaven. One of two children, Jerry is survived by his sister, Audrey Bentson of Minnesota. His legacy lives on through his three children, Scott Kooiker, Ross (Michelle) Kooiker, and Tina (Bob) Huestis; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family rejoices in the assurance of Christ's promise and takes comfort knowing that Jerry's faith has become sight.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, in Eau Claire, WI, at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM up until the time of service. The family invites those attending to a luncheon following the service.
