Jeannine Rae Maloney, 88, of Altoona, Wisconsin, was welcomed by Jesus into her heavenly home on November 22, 2025. She passed away peacefully at Oak Gardens Place, her home for the last two years.
Jeannine was born on June 16, 1937, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Einer and Maxine Miller. She grew up in Branstad, Wisconsin, and graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1955. After graduation, she spent the next 17 years working as a gifted administrator for multiple organizations.
While working as a secretary for the District Attorney, she met Dayle Maloney, a photographer for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. After a long courtship, he “convinced” her to marry him, and they wed on March 2, 1972. Throughout their marriage, Jeannine supported Dayle in his entrepreneurial endeavors, often traveling with him for seminars and business conventions. Jeannine found joy and purpose in caring for Dayle as he faced daily physical challenges related to contracting polio in his late teens. Dayle preceded Jeannine in death, as did her parents and her sister, Marcia (Miller) Norwell.
Known for her quick wit and impeccable emoji choices, Jeannine preferred to be out of the spotlight. Even so, her impact on the lives around her was significant. She started each day asking God to allow her to help at least one person, which was a request He typically fulfilled many times over. Prior to her first stroke in 2023, Jeannine walked laps throughout her home for 30 minutes (not missing a day in nearly seven years) and insisted on getting out of the house at least once a day. Even after the stroke and multiple setbacks, including a broken hip, Jeannine was determined to keep walking—both physically and spiritually with her Lord. As each challenge came, her faith grew and she proved that one is never too old for sanctification. She took joy in learning, growing, and loving her Savior more and more each day.
Up until her final breath, Jeannine was a loving and loyal sister to Kathy (Miller) and Dallas Swanstrom. Of all of her roles, the title of “Aunt” was the one she treasured most. She was one of her nieces' and nephews' first playmates, and over the years she became a counselor, confidant, and friend. Jeannine was especially close to her nieces and nephew who lived nearby: Tara (Tracy) Ternberg, Dana (Tammy) Swanstrom, and Tessa (Swanstrom) Maki. She was the greatest of great aunts to Avery, Carter, and Landry Ternberg, and Emma and Kenny Swanstrom. Each of the following also held a special place in her heart and prayers: her nieces and nephews from Illinois, Mark, Keir, Renee, and Danielle; her brother-in-law, Rodney Norwell; Tessa’s like-a-daughter, Bre, and Bre’s daughters: Aria, Amber, and Alice; and her honorary nephews, Gideon, Peter, and Ryan.
Jeannine’s family extends deep gratitude to the staff-turned-friends at Optima Health and Wellness, Oak Gardens Place, and Heartland Hospice. Your love and care enriched her life, and she loved each of you dearly in return. Kathy and Dallas would also like to thank their children, Tara, Dana, and Tessa, for their support and care for Jeannine throughout the years and her final days.
Any memorial gifts to the family will be used to further the Gospel through ministries near and dear to Jeannine’s heart.
