Janice Sisson Obituary

Janice “Jan” Ann Sisson, age 72, passed away on April 8, 2024 at Cambridge Senior Living Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin from complications with Parkinson’s Disease. 

Jan was born on August 3, 1951, in Jacksonville, IL.  She was the eldest of the 6 children of Floyd “Tinker” and Alma (Hicks) Barrow.  She graduated from Palmyra Northwestern High School in 1969 as the salutatorian of her class.  She also served as Vice President and Secretary of the Future Homemakers of America her junior and senior year respectively.  In addition, she was a member of the student council, band, choir, Dance band and 4-H club.

After high school, Jan attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL.  It was here she met her future husband and best friend, Dale “Chip” Sisson.  After graduating college with a degree in Elementary Education, Jan and Dale were married on August 26th ,1972 and were happily married until her passing.

Jan went on to teach elementary school in Pittsfield and New Berlin, Illinois as well as Austin, Minnesota and served as a substitute teacher in both the Duluth, Minnesota and Austin, Minnesota school districts.  In addition to teaching, Jan worked as a secretary for the Anchorage in Duluth and for the Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford Oregon.  Jan also worked at the jewelry counter at Glass Block in Duluth, and at customer service for Younkers in Austin MN, and Eau Claire, WI before relocating to Medford Oregon and working customer service at Kohls.  She retired from Kohls in Eau Claire in 2019.

Jan was a loving wife and mother to her three children.  She loved baking, sewing, music, reading, spending time with family, and travelling.  Over the course of her life, she played the piano for the various churches that were blessed with her talents.

Janice is survived by her husband Dale of Eau Claire, her three children Charles “Chip” and Jamie Sisson of Two Harbors, MN, Chris and Dora Sisson of St. Augustine FL, and Jeremy and Caryn (Sisson) Stanek of Eau Claire, WI, her grandchildren Katherine, Elizabeth, Megaen, Dylan, and Hailey and one great-grandchild Oslo, as well as her siblings Sue (Buck) Warden, Elsie (Tom) Ellsworth, Alvin (Leslie) Barrow, Sally (Mike) Sims, and Marie (John) Robertson as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Alma Barrow.

Services will be held at the Modesto Christian Church in Modesto, IL on Saturday, April 20, 2024.  Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1 PM followed by a service at 1:00 (officiated by her brothers-in-law Tom Ellsworth and John Robertson) and light lunch afterward.
