James Ulberg Obituary

James Richard Ulberg of Eau Claire passed away peacefully October 25th after a courageous battle with leukemia.

He is survived by the love of his life Cheri Hestekin Ulberg who he married August 4th 1990. Jim and Cheri are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.
Jim, also known as Boone or Jimmy, was born July 7th 1942 in rural Eleva, Wisconsin to Clifford and Vivian Ulberg.

Jim graduated from Eleva-Strum high school in 1961. He entered the U. S. Air Force and fondly talked about his time while stationed in New Mexico. After his military discharge he enrolled in CVTC and received an Accounting Associate Degree. Upon graduation he joined Armour Foods in Purchasing, and after 32 years retired as a Purchasing Manager.

In his free time Jim enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Packers and Badgers. True to his nickname, “Boone”, Jim loved the outdoors. His passion was deer hunting whether it be by a bow or gun. His other adventures included hunting moose, elk, bear, turkey and pheasant, which led him to travel as far as British Columbia. He also enjoyed fishing with family and friends.

Jim and Cheri loved to travel, especially vacations to Hawaii, Alaska, and The National Parks. They most recently enjoyed winter stays in Florida.

Jim enjoyed spending time with family. In addition to his wife Cheri, he is survived by children Dawn (Kail) LaVigne, Darin (Kristie) Weber, Michelle (Shawn) Cady, Paul Ulberg; 9 grandchildren Levi Baier, Kaylee Baier, Graceanne Sevesind, Makayla Sevesind, Tessa Ulberg, Jager Ulberg, Kiya Ulberg, Alyssa Weber, and Ava Weber; great grandson Tucker Peterson; siblings Sharon (Ed) Prudlick, Dennis (Maxine) Ulberg, and Carmen Swartz; sister-in-law JoAnne (Mike) Ward, brother-in-law Gary Hestekin; aunt Betty Bennett; and nephews Jerry Ulberg, Chad Ulberg, Greg Ulberg, Jason Swartz, and Bradley Swartz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law James and Violet Hestekin, and sister-in- law Debbie Hestekin.

Special thank-you to the Doctors and Nurses of Marshfield Clinic Cancer Center of Eau Claire, Marshfield Hospital, and to the many family and friends who supported Jim and Cheri throughout this journey.
