Helen Bowman Obituary

Helen “Jean” Bowman entered her eternal home on Wednesday February 12, 2025. She was the daughter of Ken and Elaine (Mercier) Stooldryer and was born on June 17, 1936 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. On December 27, 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, James “Jim” Bowman at St. James Parish in Eau Claire. They were married for 62 years. Jim and Jean were long term members of Immaculate Conception church. Jean graduated from Regis High School in 1954.

Jean was full of energy and a willingness to invest that energy into the care of others. She created a loving, supportive home life for Jim and their four children, and in later years, extended endless hospitality to family and friends who visited their Estes Park, CO cabin. Jean had many hobbies, but her favorite was playing golf with friends and family. Her competitive spirit came to life on the golf course, not to mention in a good-natured round of mini golf with her grandchildren. She also spent her time gardening, painting, crafting and making jewelry to share with her family. Jean always had a great time attending the sporting and music events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After Jim’s retirement, the two of them had the opportunity to spend considerable time in Texas, Florida, and Colorado. Jean will be remembered fondly for her love of family and how she passed on those traits to them.

She is survived by, son Jeff (Mary) of Sugarland, Texas, daughters Jackie (Tom) Borsheim of Eau Claire, Judy (Bob) Shugarts of Eau Claire, Jeannie (Steve) Eckley of Onalaska.  She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Michelle (Trevor) Wilson, Ryan (Tami) Peterson, Adam (Maeve) Peterson, Bobby Shugarts, Kristi (Johnathan) Reyna, Emily (Jonathan) Niemi, and step-grandchildren Lindsey and Kelsey Borsheim.  Much joy was brought to Jean by time spent with her great-grandchildren, Carli, Parker and Lainey Wilson, Dylan and Isabella Peterson, Imogen and Clint Peterson, Gavin and Emma Reyna, and Matthias and Micah Niemi.  She is also survived by her sister Janet (Roger) Shilts, and numerous extended family members.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, and her parents. The family of Jean Bowman would like to thank the St. Croix hospice team along with those caring for her at The Classic.
