Helen Catherine Anderson, 77, of Elk Mound, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 17, 1946 to George and Gertrude (Liebly) Johnson. Helen grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School.  Helen was baptized at Luther Hospital and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Church.  Her love for Christ remained with her throughout her life.  She really enjoyed attending Church Circle Group and Sunshine Club with her neighbors.  On October 17, 1970 she married her best friend, Duane Anderson, and they started their life in Elk Mound.   Together, they raised two daughters.  Helen was most proud of her family and cherished time spent with them. 

Helen loved camping trips with her family.  She spent time making meals, playing games in the camper and going out and exploring. Pudgie pies were a staple on the camping trips, she always enjoyed her spam ones.  Her favorite place to camp was the Duluth area, but she traveled to many states as well.  She also enjoyed getting together with friends and family, dancing, playing cards, bowling with friends, and collecting cardinals. Her extensive cardinal collection was full of many unique and beautiful items.

She will always be remembered for her caring and loving nature.  She was always the hostess. “Do you need anything?” she would often ask. She loved to provide and make her wonderful treats, cookies, cakes and pies.  She was “famous” for making Angel food candy and Sandbakkels for many family members and friends.  Helen also was known for sending handwritten, very personal cards, that were so very heartfelt to all of her loved ones. Every summer, she would plant a large garden with Duane, then she canned many of the vegetables that were shared with family.

Helen attended vocational tech after high school. She worked as a secretary at Grosvold Plumbing Company in Eau Claire and at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church in Elk Mound. She also enjoyed caring for all four of her grandchildren.  She absolutely adored and would do anything for them.  She attended many concerts, plays, ball games, parades and anything involving her grandkids.  She was always there to support them and was very proud of their accomplishments.

Helen is survived by her husband, Duane Anderson (married 52 years) and her two daughters, Brenda (Jason) Stahlbusch of Eau Claire and Theresa (Michael) Lauer of Menomonie, four grandchildren, Dale and Ashton Stahlbusch, Megan and Trent Lauer. One brother, George (Gerri) Johnson of Cleveland, OH, two sisters, Carol (Ken) Brownell and Mary (Tom) Brownell each of Eau Claire, WI. sister-in-law, Dianne Anderson of Elk Mound, WI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Johnson, in-laws Lester and Elfrieda Anderson, brother and sister-in-law’s Robert and Nan Anderson, Joe and Shirley Larson, Marlene and Ed Mizer and Eugene Abrams.  Nieces Theresa Abrams, Karen Abrams, Lori Wendt, Rosalie Zielsdorf and great-niece Alicia Wollmer.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 3735 Jeffers Rd, Eau Claire, WI 54703. Pastor David Irgens will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in the Barum Cemetery in Elk Mound, Wisconsin
