Duane Halvorson

Duane Halvorson, 94, of Eau Claire, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the VA Home in Chippewa Falls.

Duane was born September 9, 1930 in Poppel Township, MN to Clarence and Mary(Holm) Halvorson.

Duane served in the Army during the Korean War from February 1952 - February 1954 and was Honorably Discharged at the end of his service.

He worked for 17 years for Reserve Mining in Babbitt, MN and later for various local businesses and the Ely Forest Service. Duane also worked 2 years in Burwell, NE helping to construct a major dam. 

Duane trapped for many years and enjoyed just wandering all the backroads and fishing and exploring.

Duane and Janet retired and moved to Eau Claire, WI in 2005 to be near their daughter and her family. Duane and Janet "grandpa & grandma" loved to spend time with the grandkids taking the fishing and to the park and treating them to Kwik Trip or McDonald's when getting off the school bus.

He is survived by his daughter Stacie (John), Grandson Tyler and Granddaughter Nicki Kumferman all of Eau Claire, WI; sister in law, Linda Hoyt, nephews, Ronnie (Becky) Halvorson and family, Bradley Holm and family, Kevin (Christine) Bestul, Mark (Kathy) Bestul and Family; nieces, Gail (Mike) Maruska and family, Kathy (Jason) Heller and family, Carmen Stafford and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over 50 years, Janet; son, Gregory; brothers, Russell Holm and Laverne Halvorson; sisters in law, Hariet Holms, Donna Halvorson, Margaret Bestul; niece, Penny Long and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

There will be a Celebration of Life in May at his former residence in Eau Claire. A burial including his wife and son, will be on August 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, 39998 Zion Road, Bagley, MN, with a lunch to follow at the Bagley Park and Campground.
