On June 6, 2023, Dr. Scott Edward Cameron, 62, passed away in the comfort of his home, after courageously battling a rare cancer. As an orthopedic surgeon, outdoorsman, and most notably a family man, he made a significant impact on the lives of many. Whether he was in the woods, treating patients, or spending time with loved ones, he had a magnetic optimism that brought joy to everyone around him. Many will remember him for his warmth and kind eyes.
Beloved husband and soulmate of Mary Lou (née Budny), adored father of Erica (Kai), Jessica (Peter), and Hunter, proud grandfather of Sebastian, Elliot, Ezra, and Philip, dear brother of Ray (Julie), Camille (Gregory), Kim (Jim), Mike (Heather), and Becky (Rob).
Scott was born on June 21st, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Edward Cameron (Maria “Lita” Cameron) and Janice Killmar (John Killmar). Scott graduated from Whitefish Bay high school 1978 and attended University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee graduating in 1981 with a B.S. in Biology. He was a record holding collegiate diver during this time. He graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1985 and completed an internship at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado, and residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington state. Scott served for nine years in the U.S. Army, achieving a rank of Major.
Scott and Mary Lou were married in November of 1984. Scott adored his wife, Mary Lou, and they had so much fun together traveling, spending time at the cabin, and taking on endless projects.
Scott practiced at the Marshfield Clinic for nearly thirty years, serving as an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. While Scott always prided himself in his broad scope of practice, he truly became masterful at hip and knee replacements. One of Scott’s final professional accomplishments was championing the Center of Excellence project for knee and hip replacement for the Eau Claire Marshfield Clinic in June of 2022. Marshfield Clinic is one of only three health systems in the state to have achieved this advanced specialty certification.
Scott was an avid outdoorsman. While he was a very successful hunter and fisherman of many species, he would tell you that nothing gave him greater enjoyment than chasing whitetail deer with his bow or hooking into the ever-elusive musky. Scott took immense pride in cultivating and managing his hunting property in Buffalo County, WI - this was truly his happy place.
Juggling, unicycle riding, bird hunting with his vizslas, teaching his grandchildren to fish, maple syrup-ping, jam and jerky making, and fixing just about anything are representative of Scott’s wide variety of talents.
The Cameron family would like to thank the team at Marshfield Clinic Cancer Center, in particular Dr. Patcharin Tanawattanacharoen for her extraordinary care, and the Mayo Clinic Hospice team.
