David Lindner, Sr. Obituary

David John Lindner, Sr. passed peacefully at his home after a series of health problems on November 27, 2024. He declined rapidly after the death of his son in September.

Dave was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire on May 18, 1944. He attended St. Patrick’s grade school, Regis High School and the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.

After graduating from St. Thomas, Dave married Carol (Knudtson) on April 1, 1967 at Holy Guardian Angel in Brackett, WI. Dave worked for International Harvester in Melrose Park, IL before returning to Eau Claire to work in the family business alongside his father, Joe Sr and his grandfather, John Sr.

Family and his religion were extremely important to Dave. Dave and Carol were married for 57 years and were blessed with three talented and gifted children, David, who passed on September 12, 2024, Heather, and Kevin. He loved them dearly and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. Dave and Carol were able to travel to many wonderful locations—-some of their favorites being, Kenya, Tanzania, Japan, and Norway.

Dave was an extremely kind, generous, and caring man. He suffered over the past 8 years with many serious illnesses and hospital stays. He truly appreciated all the medical care he received from doctors and nurses too numerous to mention. No matter how ill he was he always tried to greet his caregivers with a pleasant smile.

Dave will be greatly missed by his special friends (you know who you are) but especially by his family who are devastated by his passing. His wife Carol (Knudtson), his daughter, Heather, and her husband

Alan Beyer and their sons, Luke, and Jase. his son Kevin and his wife Naweichi Temu and their son John. His only brother Joe Jr. Lots of in-laws and cousins. He is already missed by his current dogs, Lucy, and Poppy.

He is preceded in death by his son, David, his parents, Joe Sr and Jeanne Lindner and Carol’s parents Oscar and Grace Knudtson. Also, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and his sister-in-law, Kay Lindner.

It is devastating to think of life without Dave especially so soon after the passing of our son.

If anyone can die of a broken heart, we feel that is what took our beloved Dave.

A service of remembrance will be held at the Newman Center on the campus of UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, December 14 at 12 pm (noon). There will be no visitation prior to the service.

If you wish to donate in Dave’s name, consider the Newman Center, 110 Garfield Avenue, Eau Claire or the Sojourner House (Catholic charities homeless shelter) 618 S. Barstow Street, Eau Claire.
