Christine Hogenson Obituary

Christine M. Hogenson, age 74 of Eau Claire passed away at her residence in Eau Claire, Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Christine was born 12-29 1950 in eau Claire Wisconsin to Kenneth and Iona Hogenson.  She was christened in the front room of Great Grandma Jacobsen's farm on july 9th 1951 by Rev Carsten Smeby (probably in Norwegian). She attended elementary and high school in Eau Claire, she attended University of Wisconsin Eau Claire earning a bachelors degree in Biology.  Needing a challenge she went on to air traffic control training in Oklahoma City .  She worked for 2 years at Timmerman airport in Milwaukee.  After chewing her finger nails to the bone she went back to school at CVTC in Eau Claire earning her associate degree in Histology ( the most challenging program offered )   She went on to move to Iowa and work at Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids for the next 30 or so years.  Even though she went through some hard times over the past few years she never lost her faith or love for her family and friends be it in Wisconsin or Iowa.

There will be a service of remembrance at her Iowa church -First Lutheran of Cedar rapids  on Monday JUne 16 at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Craig Brown .  website firstlutherancr.org

Chris is survived by sisters Diana and Debi Hogenson(Jeff) , brother in law Jon Kurshinsky.  Nieces Sara Omara (Tyson) , Tracy and Kathryn Kurshinsky, Aubrey and Shauna Hogenson,.  Great nieces and nephews Taneshia Hogenson. ShaeLin and Kaia Hogenson, Olivia and Dominick Grzegorek .  Allison and Jon Omara. She is also survived by Aunt Arlette Hilt and numerous cousins on both maternal and paternal sides

We would like to express sincere gratitude and love for her friends in  Cedar Rapids especially  Vickie Hughes and Nancy Hendricks , her First Lutheran "kindred sisters" . and all the staff at the faciclties where she lived these past 10 years or so, your love and compassion knows no bounds.

One memory that was mentioned more than once this past week was how much she loved playing Trivial Pursuit and how none of us could ever win or even score a pie when Chris was playing .  She lived a full and generous life giving of her time and talents whether it was crocheting , knitting or baking.  Her music was important whether just listening or playing bells, (four in  hand no less).  She played a solo handbell piece one Christmas eve service at St. John's (her home church) . We have found so many thank you cards and tributes for her volunteer work with children and the homeless and her gifts to humane societies in memory of her beloved cats Shadow and Emmy.

We will miss her every day until we are together again .
