Carl Miller Obituary

Carl W. Miller Jr., 69, of Eau Claire and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on January 31, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on June 12, 1954, in Dillon, Montana, to Carl W. Miller and Jacquelyn Miller.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Carl enlisted at 17 during the Vietnam War and served with honor and distinction until his retirement in 1991, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. His career included two tours in West Germany and a deployment to Panama during Operation Just Cause. Upon his retirement from service, he relocated to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Here, he carried on serving his community as a supervisor for the Chippewa County Highway Department and later a trusted postal delivery carrier until his second retirement in 2015.

Carl was a cherished member of his family and community, known for his leadership, integrity, and passion for coaching his sons' youth sports teams. He had a lifelong love for reading, which he passed on to his children. Carl enjoyed traveling, especially as he explored America and Europe, and trout fishing in the mountain west. He loved nothing more than spending quality time with his family and his loyal canine companions, Sam and Maggie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Miller, his four sons, Carl (and his son Sean and daughter Siena), Jack (and his son Blake and daughter Aurora), Mike, and Andrew (Kaitlin) Miller as well as his siblings Richard, Nancy, Chris, and Tammy.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. Miller and Jacquelyn Miller, as well as two brothers, Mark and John. He will be remembered as a brave soldier and patriot, a loving family man, and a friend to many. Carl’s enduring spirit, eternal optimism, and love of life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

A memorial service will be held for Carl at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI on March 8th, 2024, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization close to Carl's heart.
