Beverly Spallees

Beverly (Steinmetz) Spallees died on June 6", 2023, at the age of 93 at her son's home. She was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire to Martha (Kohler Sosinski) and Edward Steinmetz.

She was 2" oldest, and had 2 brothers, Clayton and Neil, and 1 sister Sharon. She went to 10* Ward Grade School and graduated from Eau Claire High School. Beverly enjoyed sports skating, roller skating and swimming as a young girl. She married Paul Spallees at the age of 18 in Eau Claire, WI and they eventually had 7 children: Bonnie (James) Reiter, Vicki (John) Fischer, Wendy Spallees, Rebecca (Thomas) Custer, Paula (Larry) Kelly, Shelly (Erling) Spallees Hansen, and finally their only son, Jon Paul Spallees.

She worked for some years at the Bell Telephone Company after high school and then, after being married, chose the retail field at Montgomery Wards for 15 years, Pranges for 20+ years and Younkers where she retired. She loved going to gigs with Paul while he played in bands, along with dancing with Paul at nightclubs in their early years of marriage, and going on trips.

She was fortunate enough to visit Oahu, Hawaii, various cities in Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and several U.S. States. She and Paul celebrated 54 years of marriage together before his passing.

Beverly was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In her retirement years, she did some volunteering for Sacred Heart Hospital and Catholic Charities. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, as well as enjoying the company of her dog "Boodle, and did lots of reading. There were numerous medical events with Beverly's health throughout her life, but she pulled through every one of them, defying all odds numerous times, and amazing the medical community. Beverly was a fighter and the mainstay of her family.

She enjoyed each family member, including her 17 grandchildren: Jason Reiter, Shane (Becca) Fischer, Chase Fisher, Blake Fischer, Ryan (Cara) Custer, T. Corey (Danielle) Custer, Caitlin Custer Quigley, Keeley (Brandon) Borowski, Ian (Shannon) Custer, Angela (David) Bigler, Maggie Kelly, Carl Sivert (Max) Spallees Hansen, Sara Isabel (Jake Hansen) Spallees Hansen, Martha Angelica Spallees Hansen, Alex Spallees, Cecily Spallees, and Celeste Spallees. Beverly had 22 great-grandchildren.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Paul, daughter Wendy, both of her parents, her 2 brothers and 1 sister.

The funeral mass for Beverly will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Eau Claire. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Hulke Family Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will take place immediately following the Mass at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
