Bernice Esther (Strobush) Kiekhoefer Tormoen, age 83, of Eau Claire, WI died Monday, December 19, 2016 at Heritage Memory Care.  She was born October 14, 1933 to Fred and Ruth Strobush in River Falls, WI.  She grew up on a dairy farm south of Hammond and attended a one room country school for five years, graduated as valedictorian from Hammond High School.  Bernice married Edward J. Kiekhoefer from New Richmond, WI on June 22, 1951.  Their marriage was blessed with four children; Gary, Doris, Karen, and Jean.  Bernice and Edward raised their family on a dairy farm southwest of Hammond, WI.  Bernice worked side by side with her husband on the farm and managed the farm books.  She raised most of the family vegetables & berries in a large garden, canning or freezing about six hundred quarts of produce each year.  Bernice enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, dancing, entertaining, and playing games, especially cards.  She was a proud mother and particularly enjoyed the parenting challenge of the teenage years.  She and Ed enjoyed traveling to various regions in the US and visited many of the wonderful sites this country has to offer.

Bernice held jobs outside of home & farm responsibilities; nursing assistant at Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond and Assistant Librarian at St Croix Central Elementary in Roberts, WI.  When Ed’s health made him unable to continuing farming, they bought and operated the Roberts Café.  Bernice assisted with the café operations while continuing her library work.  In 1982, Bernice obtained her insurance license and worked one year at Bankers Life & Casualty before joining Prudential as a District Agent. She also obtained her SEC license to sell mutual funds and other investment products along with insurance.  She enjoyed a rewarding 10 year career with Prudential, building solid relationships with her clients and earning National Quality Awards and National Sales Achievement Awards.

After retiring from Prudential in 1993, Bernice and Ed became “snowbirds” and began spending winters in Arizona and warmer seasons in WI.  Bernice enjoyed the “snowbird” lifestyle for 20 years, spending her time line dancing, playing cards, volunteering, traveling, and visiting with family & friends.  After Ed passed in 1999, she continued going to AZ and met & married Omer Tormoen in 2001.  They continued to live between Sun City, AZ and Eau Claire, WI and enjoyed four wonderful years together traveling and visiting family & friends until his death in 2005.

Bernice was an active church member and had a lifelong interest in political events.  She served on the Roberts Village Board, Library Board and as a council member for her condo associations.
