Edward A. "Ed" Isaksson, 57, of Eau Claire, passed away from a sudden heart attack on Friday, February 1, 2019. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dedicated father, and proud grandfather.

A memorial service will take place at 4 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Hulke Family Funeral Home. At the conclusion of the service a memorial visitation will take place at the funeral home from 4:30-8:00 pm.

Ed was born on September 14, 1961 in Hudson, WI to Stewart and Nancy (Moe) Isaksson. He graduated from Durand High School in 1979. He met the love of his life, Caroline Zawada, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and they married on August 4, 1984. Ed joined his father in the family business, Isaksson Insurance, and later ran his business, Isaksson & Associates. Ed and Caroline lived in Eau Claire where they raised two daughters, Alyson and Emily. He was a devoted father and took great joy in being a grandfather to his two granddaughters, Eva and Olivia.

Ed was loved by his family and many friends, and his enthusiasm for life was contagious. He was happiest when boating on Lake Wissota and Lake Superior, camping in state and national parks, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling up north, and spending time with his family. Ed will be remembered for his larger than life personality and his devotion to those he loved. He brought meaning to everyday moments by helping those around him see the goodness in life. In his death, Ed's generosity continues as a tissue donor.

Ed is survived by his wife of 34 years, Caroline (Zawada) Isaksson; two children, Alyson (Pete) Capp, and Emily (Jared) Penrod; granddaughters Eva Capp, Olivia Penrod, and baby Penrod on the way; parents, Stewart and Nancy Isaksson; brothers Steve (Carol) Isaksson and Mike Isaksson and sisters Kari Helinsky and Jody (Brad) Hartwig; parents-in-law, Mike and Irene Zawada; nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hjalmar and Daisy Isaksson, maternal grandparents, Elvis and Marguerite Moe, mother-in-law, Siglinde Zawada, and nephew, Phil Isaksson.

The Ed Isaksson Memorial Fund (https://www.gofundme.com/ed-isaksson-memorial-fund) has been established for those wishing to contribute. Funds will be dedicated to support the activities Ed loved so that others can enjoy the great outdoors as much as he did.

Dear Caroline and family --I am so saddened and sorry for your loss and our loss as his friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Ed through Illinois Mutual where we were agents and spent time together on trips that we won and also at the home office forums. I will miss him tremendously and got to enjoy time and laughs with him 2 yrs ago at the home office and I am so glad we golfed together he was a blast. My very best to all of you and us at this sad time--may beautiful memories light your way through this sad time--

Those of us who were fortunate to know Ed will never forget the smiles and laughs that he brought into our lives. Whether it was challenging me to wrestle (until I got too big and he thought I could beat him), cracking a joke, or dispensing some of his famous wisdom, Ed was larger than life. His love of family and life is an example we should all aspire to achieve. Ed made the world a better place and we are truly thankful to have known him.
Ed was taken from us far too early and we will miss him dearly. Our sincerest condolences on the sudden loss of a good man; our thoughts are with the entire family.

  22. Ron Powers February 4, 2019

    Dear Caroline, Allison, and Emily,

I was so sad to read about Ed’s passing. What a tragic event for your family! I remember Ed as a kind and warm hearted person who had a real zest for life. When we talked, we usually talked about his love for fishing on Lake Superior. He was always so friendly and generous with his attitude toward others.

By listening to Allison and Emily in class, it was obvious to see just how much his 2 girls adored him. I am sure he had the same effect on his grandchildren. By listening to kids, it was always easy to tell which ones came from strong families with high values. Hands down, your family was at the top of that list, making it no accident that Ed’s girls were quality people. Because of that strength, I know your are finding comfort in each other’s arms to help you make it through this difficult time.

    With sincerest sympathy,

    Ron Powers
