Earl Sydney Reppert, age 92, of Eau Claire, WI passed away peacefully at Neighbors of Dunn County on January 30, 2019.

He was born to Charles and Alma (Manns) Reppert on April 30, 1926 in Stony Plain, Alberta Canada. His family moved to the United States when he was 16 years of age.  Earl attended Lakeland and transferred to UW- Madison to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1951.

Earl served during WWII with the 1874th Army Engineer Aviation Battalion in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a Staff Sergeant Camouflage Technician from April 1945 through December 1946 and received a Meritorious Service Award.  He was honored to participate in the Freedom Honor Flight in 2011.

As a young pharmacist in LaCrosse, WI he met his future wife, Marlene (Berg), and they were later married on February 14, 1953.

Earl and Marlene moved to Eau Claire in 1953 where he was a pharmacist and co-owner of Urheim Pharmacy (Mayo Clinic Pharmacy) for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

Earl had many talents and interests. He loved nature and often rescued injured animals including otters, owls, and even a monkey while stationed in Japan.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting trips in Northern Wisconsin, Montana, and Alaska. He loved woodworking, woodturning, and designing jewelry.  Earl loved learning new languages and fluently spoke German while dabbling in Japanese, Norwegian, Russian and Spanish. He also loved cheering on the Packers and Badgers.  Earl was a great mathematician and was always baffled why his daughters were unable to calculate numbers in their head like he could! Earl lived life to the fullest and was one of very few who can say he completed everything on his bucket list.

Earl was a kind, caring and dedicated husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather, always supporting his family in every aspect of their lives.  Spending summers water skiing and boating with family and friends at the family cottage on Island Lake was always special to Earl.  Earl could often be found in the auditoriums, bleachers or sidelines following his grandchildren’s activities.  His grandchildren cherish many special memories of Grandpa- his love of doughnuts, hidden chocolate candies that he would share behind Grandma’s back, his magic treat closet, uniquely wrapped gifts, “resting his eyes” while watching Tom and Jerry, hiking in the woods, and sharing his love of the outdoors and animals.

Earl and Marlene always enjoyed traveling and upon retirement traveled throughout the U.S. in their motor home eventually spending winters in Tucson, AZ where they made many close friends.  They also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and were among the first visitors to Eastern Europe after the Berlin Wall was taken down in 1989.

After Marlene’s death, Earl continued to enjoy the companionship of his fellow residents at Oakwood Hills Retirement Community and later at the The Classic Senior Living.  He especially enjoyed the extra desserts which were spirited to him by the staff at Oakwood Hills!

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; parents, Charles and Alma Reppert; and brother, Raymond.

Earl is survived by his daughters, Sharon Volkman (Rich) of Plymouth, MN and Carla Reppert-Lokken (Paul) of Eau Claire; 2 granddaughters, Erin Hoff (Matt) of Dayton, MN and Sara Volkman of Plymouth, MN; 2 grandsons, Grant Lokken of Eau Claire, and Carlton Lokken (fiancée Emmarie Heacox) of Rochester, MN and great grandson William Hoff (b. 2/1/19).  He is further survived by one sister, Alma Reppert of Elk Lake, WI; and Marlene’s sisters, brother, and nieces and nephews.

Happy trails, Earl. We will miss you.

Earl was one of my favorite people at the pharmacy.. Many years ago I got a Husky dog from him and Marlene which we enjoyed. He was a very special, kind person and I always enjoyed talking to him. I worked at the Midelfort clinic for 47 years. My condolences to his family.
