(Chuck) Gang Cheng, 58, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully August 6, 2018 surrounded by his wife, sister, daughter and son-in-law.

Chuck was born in Shanghai, China on October 7th, 1959, the son of Cheng Linkun and Wu Tingfang. Chuck lived and grew up in Shanghai where he met his wife, Simei Tong and started their family there together.

Chuck and Simei made difficult choices to do what was best for their family. In 1993, Simei continued her education in the US and began teaching at UWEC in 2002 to provide an opportunity for their daughter to come to the US. Chuck remained in Shanghai to care for their aging parents, as is Chinese custom, visiting Eau Claire as often as he could.

Before retiring and moving permanently to the US in 2017, he was a professional training instructor in a manufacturing facility and also served as a finance consultant manager. Later he took to his passion and became a real estate analyst and investor in Shanghai.

Chuck will be remembered as a caring, loving parent, spouse and brother that always put others first. Chuck could be counted on to help research, plan and bargain on anything, a skill he has passed on to his daughter. His passion to travel and see the world have inspired his many friends and family to live life to the fullest.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 31 years, Simei, his daughter Xiaowen, son-in-law John and sister Yu Cheng.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Health Systems: Eau Claire Dunlap Cancer Center, 1221 Whipple St, Eau Claire, WI 54703.

So sorry to hear your loss. I am so shocked to know Cheng Gang's passing. He and I were high school classmates and used to play basketball together almost every day. He was such a smart guy and I often found him to help solving math problems. I have not met him since high school graduation, and was so excited when I knew he was in US, hoping one day we could meet and chat again. You lost a great husband and father, I lost a great classmate and friend. My deepest condolence to you and your family.
