Ronald G. Sather, age 84 of Eau Claire passed away early Monday morning, August 6, 2018, with family by his side.

Ron was born in Eau Claire on July 27, 1934, to Luther William Sather and Gladys Viola (Larson) Sather. Ron and his brother Bill grew up in Eau Claire and shared many good times together.  On February 27, 1960, Ron married the love of his life, Beverlie Ponick.  They were blessed with two sons, Jeffrey and David.

Ron graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in May 1952.  He proudly served eight years in the United States Navy.  He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1957 and the reserves in 1961.  He received a National Defense Service Medal. He always enjoyed sharing stories of his Navy days.  In 1961 he began a 33 year career at Xcel Energy.  In 1993 he retired from Xcel Energy as a Designer Supervisor.  Whenever you took a drive with “grandpa,” he was sure to have a story about the area and how he worked on some part of it.

He enjoyed all sports, including golf.  As a successful young athlete in high school, he carried that enthusiasm with him and helped instill his passion for sports in his three grandsons with the motto of “never give up.”  There was rarely a football, basketball or baseball game that grandpa didn’t attend.  He loved his grandsons dearly and was always there for them and was so proud of their accomplishments.  It didn’t matter what you were doing with grandpa, but it was sure to include a twinkle in his eye, a joke or two, and, of course, a treat.

As his retirement continued, he continued to enjoy going to movies with his brother, weekly drives with his buddy, and walking their cat on a leash around the neighborhood with Bev.

He was a member of the American Legion and Saving Grace Lutheran Church.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Beverlie; his son Jeffrey (Diane); three grandsons:  Brandon, Dillon and Jacob; and his brother William.  He is preceded in death by his son, David Paul; his sister, Elizabeth and his parents Luther and Gladys.

Though Ron will be missed every minute of every day, his kind smile and friendliness will live in our hearts forever as he enters into the glory of heaven.
