Alan “Al” W. Amundson, age 86 of Eau Claire passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Al was born in Augusta, Wisconsin on August 5, 1931, to Alvin and Ida (Reimer) Amundson.

Al started working in the printing business at Eau Claire Book and Stationary after high school and stayed in that field of work with Graphic Printing, Sands Eagle Printing and finally retiring from Johnson Printing as a salesman. He did not stay retired for long as he missed talking to people, so he went to work for Sam Auto Supply as a delivery driver and he finished his career with O’Reily Auto Parts.  Al enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard for one enlistment in the early 1950’s.  Al had a passion for bowling, which he followed for many years of league bowling.  Al and Muriel were in a couple’s golf league at the Lowe’s Creek Golf Course.  He was a past president of the Moose Lodge in Eau Claire.

Al married Mary Lou McCrackin to this union three children were born: Richard, Mary Ann, and Carol. They later divorced and Al married Muriel Gardow.

Al is survived by children: Richard (Barbara) Amundson, Mary (Wenzel) Smejkel, Carol Marheine, Rhonda (Rodney) Cooke, Linda Westby and Sister Jeannie Bleskachek, daughter-in-law Terry Moen.  Al is further survived by 15 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild. Al is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and numerous brother and sister-in-laws from Muriel’s family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Muriel, two brothers Raymond and Elliott, a sister Marilyn, stepson Russel Moen, son-in-law William Marheine and numerous sister and brother-in-laws.

Funeral service will take place at 11 am on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall Street, Eau Claire, WI, 54703 with Pastor Jeff Carlson officiating.  Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services from 3-6 pm and at the church Monday morning from 10 am until the time of service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
