It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew James Bittner of Eau Claire, Wisconsin at the young age of 45 on May 15, 2026. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, and loyal friend. Matt's life was a testament to the power of love, strength, laughter, and faith.
Matt, born on July 15, 1980, was a loving and dedicated dad of Avery, Nolan and Eli. He loved his family with his whole heart and found his greatest joy in being present for the people he loved most. Matt shared 18 beautiful years with the love of his life Jenny. This week, they would have celebrated 16 years of marriage. Together, they created a warm and loving home that welcomed everyone who entered.
He enjoyed boating, golfing, gardening, and skiing, but nothing brought him more happiness than watching his children do the things they loved. Whether it was hockey, running, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, or countless other activities through the years, he was always there — cheering from the sidelines, offering encouragement, and even stepping in to help coach. His children knew they were deeply loved and supported. Matt was so proud of the people they have become.
Matt’s faith in God guided the way he lived his life, and he made it a priority to raise his children with those same values and beliefs. He had a gift for making people laugh and bringing comfort to those around him. Even through his final days, he held onto his sense of humor and continued to lift the spirits of others.
Matt grew up in Rochester, Minnesota where he attended John Marshall High School. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Minnesota State University, Mankato, laying the foundation for a career built on dedication, loyalty, and hard work. Matt spent nearly 30 years working for Menards, starting as a cart boy and working his way up to IS Manager. Matt was well respected by his coworkers and admired not only for his knowledge and leadership, but also for the kindness, patience, and steady presence he brought to those around him.
In August 2023, Matt was diagnosed with cancer, a challenge he faced with remarkable courage and determination. Throughout his illness, he continued to put his family first. Even during the hardest days, Matt never complained and carried himself with quiet strength and grace. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Matt, you have left a lasting imprint on our hearts, and your spirit will forever shine brightly in our memories. Until we meet again!
Matt is survived by his wife, Jenny; daughter, Avery Lentz; son, Nolan; and son, Eli.
