Gary T. Garnett, age 83, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters at his side Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems- Eau Claire.

Gary was born on November 2, 1934 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and was the only child of Walter L. and Ruth I. (Turner) Garnett. He attended Eau Claire Senior High and graduated in 1952. He served his country in the Army from 1957 to 1959.

He married the love of his life Kay Tafel on June 15, 1963. He had two daughters who were the apple of his eye and 2 grandchildren that meant the world to him. He worked and retired from the paper mill in Eau Claire.

He loved to bowl. He liked to fix old clocks and was known as the clock guy. He liked to tinker on cars and loved family cookouts.

He is survived by his wife: Kay Garnett; daughters: Judy (Dan) Harris of Fairchild, and Joanne (Greg) Huse of Eau Claire; grandson: Cody Huse; granddaughter: Madelyn Huse; brother and sister-in-laws: Vicki Tafel, Bill (Linda)Tafel, Dianna (Dave) Hanson, Effie (Steve) Heuer.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Ruth; his in-laws: Roy and Effie Tafel; granddaughter: Savannah Jo Huse; brother and sister-in-laws: Gloria (Leo) Behlke, Ronald Tafel, Donald Tafel, Marlene (Robert) Galtrude, Janet (Orville) Coble, and Roy Tafel Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Spirit Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St Eau Claire, WI 54701 with Pastor Jim Ahlquist officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. at Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services Thursday January 4, 2018. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

    I knew Gary since the early fifty's. He was one of the "EAST SIDE ROWDYS" (my name for the five guys). We had" adventures" in the fifties until Kay tamed him. Car nuts, girl watching, and raising???? . He never smoked or drank anything but his orange pop. He will be missed, but have great memories of those days!!!
