Corinne B. Liegel, May 11, 1956 - November 30, 2017

Corinne B. Liegel Play Memorial Video

Corinne Buckley Liegel, 61, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly the morning of November 30th at her home in Eau Claire. Corinne was born May 11th, 1956 in Spencer, Iowa to John Buckley and Yvonne Wakeman. On June 24, 1989 she married Mark Liegel of Loganville, WI and shortly thereafter welcomed her two boys, Jeff and Joe, into this world.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Liegel, her sons, Jeff and Joe Liegel, her mother, Yvonne Wakeman, her sisters, Jane Randolph and Jody Lunning, her brothers, John and Blair Buckley, her grandson, Connor Liegel, 38 nieces and nephews, and countless other friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her father John Buckley and her brother Jeff Buckley.

Corinne graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and started her professional career as a Social Worker in Eau Claire County. She spent 24 years passionately protecting the children of Eau Claire County in Child Protective Services. She then transitioned to working with adults with disabilities in Eau Claire County where she spent the remainder of her 39 year career. Corinne was an absolute joy to be around and brought a consistent, spunky energy to all she worked with and for. Her love, compassion, diligence, and organization were reflected in all facets of her life, but made a particularly remarkable difference in thousands of child and young adult lives in the community.

Corinne was a long-time member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eau Claire where she loved singing in the church choir. As her passion for choral music grew, she later joined the Master Singers of Eau Claire and traveled with the group to many performances, including one in Washington D.C. She had an intense love for music which she instilled in her boys from a young age.

In addition to being ever present in the community, Corinne was also a rock in her family. She was an amazing wife and mother, often putting others before herself. She truly lived the golden rule every day and always told her boys that was extremely important in life. Aside from being a mother to her two boys, she was also a “Tennis Mom”, “Church mom”, and a “Herd Mom” to her children’s friends, many of whom affectionately called her “Momma Liegel”. As her boys grew older and left the house, she always made sure that after every family get together they knew she loved them “with all her heart and soul”. That was just the kind of person she was.

As a young mother, Corinne bonded with a group of women and built lifelong friendships. During their frequent wilderness retreats, she became affectionately known as “Fire Woman” for her uncanny ability to start a fire in all circumstances. She passed down her passion for nature’s beauty via many camping trips to her two boys and always enjoyed it with friends as well. As a dear friend, she provided love, laughter, and wisdom that will be missed and cherished by many.

Mom, the world is a lesser place without you in it. We will always miss you and love you with all our heart and soul!

Memorial service will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway Street, Eau Claire, WI 54703 with the Rev. Dr. Mark X. Pirazzini officiating.  Memorial visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 4-7:30 pm and again at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 am until the time of service.  Private family committal services will take place at a later time in the First Congregational UCC Memorial Gardens.

I have known Corinne since coming to Eau Claire in 1981. She welcomed this Madison hippie into her heart almost immediately. Corinne was there for me and all of her friends as we navigated through life together. We all laughed and cried and dreamed and played and learned and worked and sang and prayed together. Corinne was a teacher, a healer, a leader. a loving mother and grandmother. A life partner to Mark. She left her fingerprints on all of our lives. We are all better for having shared our time together and I will forever keep her in my heart....my prayers and thoughts are now with her family now as they continue their journey in life with Corinne in their hearts.

  28. Carl Bahnson December 1, 2017

Corrine was a credit to the social work profession. None better. Positively impacted everyone she came in contact with whether client, fellow Co-workers, friends, and most importantly her family. God speed Corrine.

  29. Karla and Bernie Hoefgen December 1, 2017

We have known Corinne since she lived with us a short time as a UW-EC student. It was such a good decision to have her live with us. She was a wonderful role model for our 2 and 5 year old daughters and a good friend to us. We are very sad.
