Marjorie J. Vance
Send Condolence

Marjorie Jean Hodges Vance, age 93, of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017.

She was born September 10, 1924, to Joseph and Carrie Hodges. On July 18, 1943, Marjorie married George Carl Vance and resided in the Chippewa Falls, Altoona, and Eau Claire area throughout their 57 years of marriage.

“Marge” and George maintained many wonderful friendships through the years.  Family and friends have warm memories of gatherings, where meals included “favorites” for their guests.  Boxes of home-baked cookies and hand-crafted gifts were mailed to loved ones far away because Marge had such a loving and generous heart.  Many hours of her life were spent making quilts or sewing rag strips to be made into rugs, items still cherished by her family.  Marge was attentive, truly interested and caring towards those she loved.  Marge also loved many dogs during her lifetime, and in her later years, especially appreciated “visits” from Mona and Cindy, her special doggie friends.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, George Vance; son, Laurin Vance; brothers, Stanley and James Hodges; sister, Shirley Hodges Stavnaw.  Survivors include her son, Allen Vance of Mineral, Washington; daughter, Luanne (Bob) LeHew of Altoona; daughter-in-law, Louise Vance of Hayward, Wisconsin; brother, Donald (Wilma) Hodges of Eau Claire; sister, Muriel Brown of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you to Dove Healthcare--West for giving Marjorie quality care and showing her compassion while she stayed there.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Hulke Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Pastor Fred Whyte will officiate. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. I wanted to express my sadness to Marge's family about her passing. She was such a sweet spirit and was always willing to allow my students to work with her during the nursing assistant class I taught at our facility. She had that smile that showed up the minute you walked in the room and would always ask me about my mother whom she had never met. She didn't know my name, but always recognized me as someone who she enjoyed visiting with. I will so miss her when I travel to the wings. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Luanne, Bob, and family, My deepest sympathy to all of you. I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege of taking care of Marge and getting to know her. She was such a sweet lady and always gave me such a warm smile whenever I would see her. Her quiet demeanor and pleasant personality was something that made her so very special. I truly enjoyed taking care of her and getting to know you as a family. She was very lucky to have such wonderful family members in her life. She will always have a special place in my heart. My love and prayers to you and your family at this time. Julie

My god mother Margie was the greatest god mother and great aunt. She made me the best butter milk sugar cookies and I really enjoyed the times at Island Lake learning how to water ski and playing Husker Du with my cousins. In the winter we would walk from her house to go sliding on Pinehust Hill. I will miss her.

RIP Great Aunt Margie. Your sister Audrey was my Grandma, Barb is my mom. I haven't seen you in years, but remember you at picnics at Irvine Park. If I could turn back time, I'd have spent more time with the elders in the family, asking questions that may now never be answered. May Heaven have dessert medley in store for you! Love, Great Neice Kathi Mueller McMaster

We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family of Aunt Marge as we knew her. She brought a kindness to all that knew her and many memories shared by her brother James and his wife Edith. James and George both passed in the same year as did Edith and Marge. We wont make it to the service but our hearts are with you.
