Hazel V. Carlson, April 6, 2017 - August 4, 2017

Hazel V. Carlson

Hazel Virginia (Lindholm) Carlson passed away on August 04, 2017 at Dove Heath Care West with her five children at her bedside. She was born April 6, 1919 in Harris, MN to Esther and Charles Lindholm. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Harris. On September 20, 1941, she married Arnold (Arnie) Carlson; they were blessed with five children and celebrated 48 years of marriage.

Hazel was an active and faithful member of Pinehurst Lutheran Church since 1954, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, directed the youth music activities, was a member of the Ladies Aid and sang in the church choir well into her 80s. She encouraged her children to be involved in church activities and gave them a firm foundation in their faith by her example. Her strong Christian faith guided and sustained her throughout her long life.

Hazel enjoyed being a Homemaker and poured her heart and soul into making it a happy place for her family, stressing kindness and honesty. Her greatest joys were being with her children and their families and her friends far and near. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing for the family, making quilts, oil painting, reading, singing, ceramics, and watching the Green Bay Packers, especially Brett Favre. She and Arnie loved to travel and were fortunate to have spent many weeks with friends in Hawaii and with their daughter, Sandi, and her family in Turkey numerous times. They also toured Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Hazel is survived by her 5 children, Richard (Kathy) of Eau Claire; Sandra (David) Acikalin Ward of Picayune, MS; Gary (Paulette) of Eleva; Dan (Sue) of Colfax; and Kathleen (John) Ayres of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Venzel Lindholm, of Chisago City, MN. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents; her sisters Evelyn Anderson and Violet Hokanson Olson and brothers Hardy and LeVance Lindholm

The family would like to express a sincere and most heartfelt thank you for the wonderful care our mother received from Visiting Angels, Mayo Home Health and Hospice and Dove Health Care West.

What an exceptional gift to have lived such a long and productive life doing so many things she loved doing and then to have all of her children alive and in her presence and consciousness when she left. And also what an exceptional gift to all her many descendants to have shared in such a remarkable life and passing or memories of it. Congratulations and gratitude seem more appropriate than condolences. "Someone up
there"obviously likes her! With affection, Dick and

Sincere sympathy on Hazel's passing, it is so hard for those left behind. I worked on many church committees
with Hazel who was always positive & supportive in her faith & every day life. I am so glad I saw her at Walgreens this past spring, it brought back warm memories of serving with her at church & in our neighborhood.

  4. Cappy Fering August 6, 2017

My family lived next door to all the Carlson gang for many years. I will always remember Hazel as a loving, fun and kind person. She and Arne played endless games of canasta with my parents Gen and Wes Fering.
They had a ball together..always the women against the men! And her door was always open to my brother Jim and me. She was the best baker of deserts in the neighborhood. I last saw her about 3 years ago when I was home for a visit and we had a lovely visit about old times. I will miss knowing she is there....
My condolences to Dick, Sandy, Kathy, Gary and Danny and all of her grandchildren.
You had a wonderful mom and grandmother.....
